CRITICAL SITES
Allmusic
Absolutely essential reference site that has helped me find a lot of new artists over the years that were similar to ones I already knew.
Only major detractor is that it is not all that easy to navigate and it sometimes runs incredibly slowly.
More and more I am just turning to Wikipedia.
Pitchfork
Even the people that hate Pitchfork probably check it a couple times a day. They are the indie tastemakers of the moment.
Coke Machine Glow
Pitchfork lite in every way but also fairly essential. I am especially fond of their Retconning feature.
Tiny Mix Tapes
Pitchfork lite Pt. 2, however I think they sometimes show the best taste of any indie review site and their news section is well run.
Piero Scaruffi's Music Database
A lot of information on this site but his taste is seriously skewed towards experimental and avant garde rock. Reviews are in Italian and
something that resembles English.
Robert Christgau
Another useful reference site.
MP3 BLOGS
The Subversive Sounds
Out of Print alternative rock from the 1980s and 1990s. Updated daily.
Rare and OOP Soundtracks
Basically as the name suggests. Skewed towards sci-fi and horror OST.
Scorebaby
More rare OST. Skewed towards Eurotrash, horror and exploitation.
The Rawking Refuses to Stop!
Reviews, Concert photos, and plenty more. You can usually find some great bootlegs and live shows here.
The Owl and the Bear
Reviews of albums and live shows and a lot of great bootlegs and live shows.
Defgav
Come for the Frank Black Acoustic collection and maybe stay for the strange "Secret Mix" of In The Aeroplane Over the Sea.
